After finding out about Chrysty’s MS and the poor prognosis (and poor bedside manner of the diagnoser), we pursued alternative forms of treatment.
This diagnosis started us on a number of journeys…
An emotional journey – from scared to angry to hurt to determined to … well, I’m not really sure of the order but we’ve been through an emotional ringer several times since then.
A natural health journey – We’ve learned so much about the body, so much about nutrition and so much about how some natural treatments are valuable and others are just quacky.
A financial journey – From having both credit and money, to having far less credit and money. The “natural health journey” isn’t cheap.
A spiritual journey – Much more could be said about this. We’ve waffled between praying and begging God in faith to heal Chrysty to the other extreme of trying to be spiritual about accepting her current condition. This is an ongoing process. Going through crisis helps you to see what you’re made of spiritually and emotionally.
We’ve learned much about ourselves, others and human nature through this. I’m not spiritually mature enough to say that I’m “thankful” for MS, there have been some benefits for us.
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isa 41:10 (NLT)
